Fig Jam

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of fresh figs
  • 750 g of granulated sugar
  • 200 ml of water
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice or 2-3 grains of whole lemon salt

Instructions

  1. First of all, wash the figs you will use and cut each one into quarters.
  2. Meanwhile, put the granulated sugar and water in a pot. When it starts to boil, reduce the heat and boil until the syrup has a slightly thick consistency.
  3. Add lemon juice or lemon salt to the syrup. Put the figs you sliced beforehand into the boiling syrup.
  4. Stir occasionally and cook for 5–10 minutes before the figs fall apart, removing any foam accumulated on them.
  5. Remove the cooked figs from the stove and transfer them to a clean, dry jar after they have cooled down.

  • You can serve fig jam with clotted cream.
  • You can add walnuts to the fig jam.
Expert Tips
  • First of all, make sure that the figs you will use are fresh and ripe.
  • Before starting the recipe, taste the figs and determine the sugar measurement. If the figs are too sweet, you can reduce the sugar content, and if they are sour, you can increase it.
  • Add sugar and figs to the pot and leave it overnight so that the figs can release their juice.
  • To understand the consistency of the jam, use a spoon to see if it disperses. If the jam is scattering, cook it for a few more minutes.
  • Sterilize the jars you will use to store the jam with hot water and check the lids.
  • Don't forget to add lemon juice to the jam to prevent it from granulating and to keep it longer.
  • Turn the jam jars upside down and leave them overnight.
  • You can also add crumbled walnuts to the jam.
