Prepared by saucing and frying the shucked mussels, mussel tava is usually served as an appetizer with meals. It is blended with mineral water to make the outside crispy. It is frequently consumed in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions. In Belgium and France, it is served mixed with potatoes. Fried Mussels


  • 40 shucked mussels
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 1 cup flour

For frying:

  • 2 cups vegetable oil

For the sauce:

  • 4 slices of stale bread
  • Half a glass of ground walnut
  • 5 cloves of crushed garlic
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt
Fried Mussels


  1. Wash the mussels. Mix 2 cups of water and 2 teaspoons of baking soda in a bowl. Put the flour in a bowl.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pot. Arrange the mussels on wooden sticks. Dip them in carbonated water, and then roll them in flour. 
  3. Fry them in the hot oil. Take them on a paper towel and drain the excess oil.
  4. You can use tarator sauce as mussel sauce. To prepare the tarator sauce, peel the garlic cloves. 
  5. Crush 4 slices of crusty bread, half a glass of ground walnuts, garlic, salt, and olive oil in a blender. Put it into the sauce bowl.
  6. Place the mussels on a serving plate. Serve hot with tarator sauce. Enjoy your meal.
