A dish of British origin, cottage pie, is often consumed in Irish cuisine. In some countries, it is known as shepherd's pie. It is prepared with mashed potatoes and minced meat. The main ingredients are onion gravy and minced meat stuffed with mashed potatoes. It can also be served in different variations. So, how do you make Irish cottage pie? Cottage Pie

Ingredients

  • 500 grams of minced meat
  • 3 cloves of garlic (crushed)
  • 2 onions
  • 1 large carrot
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 bowl of peas (frozen)
  • 1 beef stock cube
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Black Pepper
  • Salt


For mashed potatoes

  • 6 potatoes
  • Half a cup of milk
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Half a cup of cheddar cheese (grated)
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  1. First, dice the onions and carrots and put olive oil in the pan.
  2. First, add the onions and sauté for 2–3 minutes. Then add the carrots and continue sautéing.
  3. Add the minced meat, and stir constantly. When it starts to release its water, add salt, black pepper, thyme, and rosemary and continue stirring.
  4. Then add tomato paste and flour and mix.
  5. Meanwhile, dissolve the beef stock cube in 500 ml of hot water.
  6. When the beef stock cube melts, add it to the pan. Add the peas to it and stir.
  7. When the dish has absorbed the water, remove it from the stove and transfer it to a baking tray.
  8. For mashed potatoes, peel the potatoes, cut them into quarters, and put them in a pot.
  9. Boil them with water. When the potatoes are boiled, drain the water and mash them with a masher or fork.
  10. Add milk, butter, egg yolk, and cheddar cheese and mix.
  11. Pour the mixture over the mixture on the baking tray and spread it all over.
  12. Bake in the middle level of a 170-degree oven until the top turns golden brown. Enjoy your meal.
